1st Stage = Pre-Nursery
(Routine Building):
Children of age from 3 to 4 years are
admitted to Pre-Nursery. This is the
stage of “Routine Building”. Usually
these children join school at any time of the year.
They spent anywhere from 3 months to 9 months
at this level. Their syllabus includes mostly
recognition of numbers, letters and some basic
words. At this stage children learn to follow the
school routine by spending a few hours in the
school Monday thru Friday. Their schedule is
flexible in Pre-Nursery. In the beginning, the time
spent in the classroom varies from child to child.
Some children start from 1-hour routine in the
school and finally get acclimated to 4-hour
routine. It is very important for those children who
have not spent a lot of time away from their
parents.
2nd Stage = Nursery
(Letter Building):
Children over 4 years of age are
placed in Nursery. At this stage
students must be able to follow a 5-
hour routine Monday thru Friday. This is the
stage of “Letter Building”. Nursery syllabus
focuses on memorizing and writing Urdu and
English letters with sounds. Students also learn
to write numbers at this stage. Their syllabus
includes all English and Urdu letters with
sounds and numbers from 1-100. All students
must complete this stage in order to qualify for
the next stage that begins in KG.
3rd Stage = KG
(Word Building):
Only after passing the Nursery, a
student can enter this stage of “Word
Building”. Students usually enter KG
at the age of over 5 years. KG syllabus focuses
on 2, 3 and 4 letter words of English and Urdu.
Basic arithmetic also begins at this stage. Once
the students are able to read, write and speak
simple words in English and Urdu, they qualify
for the next stage in Grade 1.
4th Stage = Grade 1
(Sentence Building):
When the students pass KG and have
learned to build words out of letters,
they qualify for grade 1. This is the
stage of “Sentence Building”. Grade 1 syllabus
focuses on building simple sentences from simple
words in English and Urdu. From this stage,
students are given separate tests for Spellings,
Reading and Composition. Basic arithmetic skills
such as simple multiplication and introduction to
division are also taught at this stage. Students
must be able to read, write and speak simple
sentences and phrases in order to qualify for the
next stage in grade2.
5th Stage = Grade 2
(Paragraph Building):
Once the students are able to read
and write simple phrases and
sentences, they enter the stage of
“Paragraph building”. At this stage children are
only introduced to paragraph building. Children
learn to write multiple sentences on certain
given topics. Children are also introduced to
Social Studies and Science at this stage but
they are not forced to memorize any long
answers to questions. Instead, they are given
MCQs. Children must be able to write a few
sentences on a given topic in order to qualify
for the next stage in grade 3.
6th Stage = Grade 3-5
(Skill Improvement):
Children usually enter this stage at the
age of 8 years. At this stage the
syllabus focuses on “Improvement” of
all the basic skills to which they have been
introduced to earlier. Children begin creative
writing and practice all of the basic arithmetic
skills at this stage. This is the stage when
children begin to read children storybooks in
Urdu and English without difficulty.
7th Stage = Grade 6-8
(Essay Writing):
After brushing up on the basic skills of
writing in grade 5, children learn to
write essays at this stage. Their
syllabus focuses on outlining and organizing
simple 5 paragraph essays. 8th graders should
be able to write well organized essays and class
presentations on various topics. Students also
develop skills in basic Arithmetic, Algebra and
Geometry. This is the stage that equals to the
international standard of Adult Basic Education.
After completing this stage, students are ready to
enter any high school level course such as O
level, American High School or Matriculation.
